Vietnam Travel and sport 4 - Slippery rock stair in Vung Tau's Front beach

One of my very first experiences of ocean swimming is falling off the moss stair when going down to the sea at Vung Tau's Front beach. To prevent the main road of the sea wave, a lot of rock stairs have been built. Lot of people have fallen there when they 1st use these stairs and hurt badly.

Do you think this stair is beautiful?

Definitely not when it is in the beach.

The stair in general is directly going into the sea, oyster and moss like these stairs much and combined to become the most slippery and sharpest rock stairs to the sea. Plus, the bath shower is right above the stair which pour even more water on that stair and enrich a lot more moss! More slippery. I hurt around 6 scratches and bruise around my body after one fall. Lucky that it is not too heavy not to swim later. My mom told me that there were many heavy accidents by that rock moss stairs already.
The bike parking place's owner has put some warning sign but it is not in red color or much visible to whom is distracted by the beautiful sea in front.  So if you go to Vung Tau's Front beach:

  • Take the furthest stair which you see the sand in its end, not the water. It is the safest stair because not much chance for moss growing.
  • Stay away from the stair near to the bath shower, that is the most slippery area.
  • Walk or even crawl by your knee and hand if you are unsure how slippery the stairs are. No embarrassing in protecting yourself.

Slowly through that stair, the early morning sea is waiting for you to enjoy. Salty, warm, dark below and shining above you. Swimming in the dark sea under the sunrise at 5:40am, you are moved by the beautiful scene lot more than in the swimming pool.
Used the safety swim buoy, brand Nature Hike, I swim 30m far off the sea shore. The sea is as quiet as the swim pool but salt. Not too much crowded but still have some swimmers around. Swimming around 5-10 minutes and take a short break, floating by hanging to my swim buoy, chat with my mom who is fully covered in her long sleeve swimsuit from top to toe, left only her 2 eyes, mouth and nostrils like the others women at her age in the beach. She said today is a good day to swim. She ever saw a big wave swiped her friend far away to the other side of the beach. My mom also has been pushed off the sharp sea stair by such a strong wave when she was climbing on, she got an bruised leg for a week. However, she still wakes up early everyday and go to the sea for a swim which make her feel better.

Wish you enjoy ocean swimming safety. STAY AWAY the stair near the bath shower in Vung Tau beach.
